The VV plaque is the only sign a Canarian holiday let is legally required to display. Everything on this page is optional, but a well-run holiday let usually ends up needing several of these anyway, and it is often easier to order them all at once, in English, from a workshop that already knows what a rental property needs.
What’s mandatory, and what isn’t
To be clear from the start: the VV plaque (CN27) is the one item on this list required by regulation. Everything described below is practical rather than legal: it makes the property easier for guests to find, use and look after, and it can reduce the number of questions and problems that land on you or your property manager during a stay. None of it is a substitute for the plaque, and none of it should be confused with a legal requirement.
Finding the property
- House number and property name signs: useful anywhere, but especially so on the kind of unmarked residential streets and urbanisations (urbanizaciones) common across the islands, where guests arriving by taxi or hire car at night can otherwise struggle to find the right gate.
- Parking signs: marking a guest’s allocated space, or making clear where they should not park, in a shared driveway or complex.
Welcoming and informing guests
- Welcome and check-in information boards: a printed board covering wifi, check-out time, bin day, house rules and anything else you would otherwise have to explain by message.
- Wifi and access cards: a small printed card with the network name and password, or door code, left on a table or fixed near the entrance.
- QR codes to a digital welcome guide: a printed code that links straight to a fuller online guide (recommendations, appliance instructions, emergency numbers) without cluttering the property with paper.
Safety and house rules
- Pool and safety notices: depth markings, no-diving or supervision notices around a pool, where applicable.
- No-smoking signs: a clear, visible notice indoors if smoking is not permitted inside the property.
- Emergency-number signs: local emergency services, your own or your manager’s contact number, and the nearest medical centre, somewhere a guest can find it without searching.
- Bin and recycling signs: where and when to put rubbish out, which is a common source of complaints from neighbours and easily avoided with a clear sign by the door.
Materials for a coastal property
Anything displayed outdoors on a Canarian property, exposed to sun, salt air and the occasional heavy rain, needs to be made from something that will last, not standard printed paper or basic vinyl. Depending on where a sign will live, we use weather-resistant materials such as aluminium composite panel, exterior-grade vinyl and UV-stable inks, the same standard we use for the VV plaque itself. Indoor items such as welcome boards and wifi cards can use lighter, less expensive materials, since they are not exposed to the weather.
Ordering as a package
Because most of these items are small and share a similar style, owners setting up or refreshing a property often order several at once (the VV plaque, a house number sign, a welcome board and a set of smaller notices, for example) rather than approaching them separately over time. If that suits you, tell us everything you need in one message and we can quote and design the set together, so the finished pieces look consistent rather than mismatched.
The ordering process is the same as for anything else we make: send your own text and any logo or house name you want used, or ask us to design the wording and layout for you; we send a digital proof to approve; production happens in our Mogán workshop; and delivery is by Correos to any of the seven Canary Islands, from €6.96 for standard post or €8.56 for registered post, or free pickup in Mogán by arrangement. As with all our signage, we confirm the lead time with your quote rather than promising a fixed number of days up front, since it depends on the materials and quantity involved.
Don’t forget the plaque
If your property is registered as a Vivienda Vacacional and does not yet have its official distintivo displayed at the entrance, that is the one item here that is not optional. See the VV plaque (CN27) page for what it is, why it is required, and how to order one.
Common questions
Is any of this legally required?
No, other than the VV plaque itself. Everything on this page is a practical improvement for guests, not a legal obligation.
Can you match the style of the VV plaque?
We can, if you would like a consistent look across the plaque, a house number sign and any other outdoor signage: just mention it when you order.
Can I order everything in one go?
Yes: tell us everything you need in one message and we can quote and produce the set together, which usually works out simpler than several separate orders.
Will an outdoor sign survive the coastal climate?
Anything intended for outdoor use is made from weather-resistant materials such as aluminium composite panel and UV-stable inks, built to cope with sun, salt air and rain.
Do you ship to islands other than Gran Canaria?
Yes, by Correos to all seven Canary Islands, from €6.96 for standard post or €8.56 for registered post, with free pickup in Mogán also available.
